Your team sent 4,000 cold emails last quarter, booked eleven meetings, and closed two deals. Nobody in the room can say which part broke. The list, the message, the follow-up, the handoff: pick one. The numbers sit in four tools that do not talk to each other, so every post-mortem turns into an opinion contest.
The short answer: a B2B sales strategy is a revenue number worked backwards into weekly activity. Start with the revenue you need. Divide it by your average deal size to get the number of deals. Divide deals by your win rate to get qualified opportunities. Keep working back through meetings held and accounts contacted until you land on a weekly number one rep can hit. Then pick one customer group, one problem you solve, and one set of steps everybody repeats.
That is the strategy. The rest of this is how to put real numbers in each slot, build the account list that feeds it, and catch the step that leaks before you spend money widening the top of the funnel. For the groundwork this piece assumes you already have, the complete guide to B2B sales covers it.

Find the Gap Between Outreach and Sales
Find the one step that leaks hardest before you plan anything. Five numbers from the last 90 days tell you more than a quarter of pipeline meetings.
Spot Where Prospects Drop Off Between First Contact and Closed Deals
Count accounts contacted, replies received, meetings held, qualified opportunities, and deals won. Stack them in a column and look at the ratio between each pair. One ratio sits well below the rest. That is your constraint, and it is the only thing worth fixing this month.
Two patterns repeat across outbound teams. A 2% reply rate paired with a 60% reply-to-meeting rate is a list problem, not a copy problem, and rewriting the email wastes a week. A 9% reply rate paired with a 15% reply-to-meeting rate is the opposite: the message works and nobody is handling the warm replies fast enough.
Pull bounce rate alongside those five. Past 3% and every downstream number you just measured is understated, since a chunk of your list never saw the email at all.
Decide How Much New Revenue Outbound Needs to Bring In
Outbound rarely carries the full number. Split the target three ways: renewals and expansion, inbound and referrals, then outbound. What is left after the first two slices is the outbound goal, and it is the only figure the rest of this plan runs on.
Write it as one sentence and pin it where the team sees it. "Outbound produces $X in new closed revenue between [start date] and [end date]." Teams that skip this line spend the next two quarters arguing about activity targets with no shared denominator.
Make Three Choices for Your B2B Sales Strategy
Three decisions carry the whole plan: which companies you sell to, which single problem you lead with, and which channels reach those buyers. Everything after that is execution.
Choose the Type of Company You Want to Sell To
Write your ideal customer profile as filters you can type into a search, not adjectives you can argue about. "Mid-market SaaS" is a slogan. "B2B SaaS, 50 to 250 employees, US and UK, running HubSpot, posted an SDR or BDR role in the last 60 days" is a query that returns a count.
That count is the test. If your ICP cannot be expressed as a filter set that returns a number, it is not an ICP yet. In Lead Explorer the same definition stacks as business filters (industry, headcount, revenue, location, tech stack) over people filters (role, seniority, department), with Bombora Intent Topics and business events like funding rounds, hiring spikes, and leadership changes on a 30 to 90 day lookback.
Pick One Customer Problem Your Offer Solves
One problem per campaign. Not a feature list, not a value proposition deck. The problem is whatever the buyer says out loud to a colleague: "my two reps spend half their week on research and we still bounce 12% of what we send."
Pick the problem you fix fastest and most visibly. A second problem goes in a second campaign to a second list, never in the same email.
Decide Where to Reach Those Buyers
Match the channel to the role rather than splitting the list. Senior titles answer LinkedIn at a higher rate than cold email. Practitioners answer email. Operations roles answer neither until the third or fourth touch, which is where most sequences stop.
Run both channels against the same account list, in one sequence, rather than two campaigns that collide. LinkedIn Outreach runs coordinated with email in Salestarget.ai, so a connection request and a cold email do not land the same morning from the same company and read as two different vendors.

Turn Your Revenue Goal Into Weekly Sales Targets
Divide the revenue goal backwards through four conversion rates until you reach a number of accounts per week. Use your own rates if you have 90 days of data, and the defaults below if you do not.
Use a $120,000 Sales Goal to Work Out How Many Deals You Need to Win
Take a two-rep team carrying $120,000 of new outbound revenue over twelve months, at a $10,000 average deal size. That is 12 wins for the year, three per quarter. Nothing else in the plan matters until those two inputs are agreed, since a wrong deal size moves every number downstream by the same multiple.
Work Back From Those Wins to Qualified Deals, Meetings Held, and Target Accounts
| Stage | Rate applied | Per quarter |
|---|---|---|
| New revenue | $10,000 average deal | $30,000 |
| Deals won | 25% win rate | 3 |
| Qualified deals | 40% of meetings qualify | 12 |
| Meetings held | 4% of accounts book | 30 |
| Target accounts | starting point | 750 |
Seven hundred and fifty accounts a quarter across two reps and thirteen weeks is 58 accounts a week, or 29 per rep. Two to three meetings a week. That is the real target, and it is small enough that a rep can look at it on Monday and know whether Friday went well.
Adjust the Plan When You Need 750 Accounts and Can Reach 600
Your filters return 600 accounts with a verified contact, not 750. Three fixes, in order of preference.
- Lift the meeting rate from 4% to 5% by adding LinkedIn to the same 600 accounts rather than finding 150 more.
- Widen exactly one filter. One adjacent industry, or the headcount band up by 100. Widening three at once makes the next quarter's numbers unreadable.
- Keep the list at 600 and move the goal to $96,000, with the gap named out loud in the forecast.
The move to avoid: holding 750 as the target and letting reps pattern-guess email addresses for the missing 150. That is how a sending domain gets burned in three weeks, and the cost lands on the 600 good accounts too.
Build a Targeted B2B Prospecting List
A targeted list is three things: accounts that match the filters, three named contacts inside each one, and a verified way to reach them. Miss any of the three and the weekly math above stops being real.
Pick Companies That Fit and Exclude Current Customers and Active Deals
Build the exclusion list before the inclusion list. Suppress current customers, open opportunities, anything another rep touched in the last 90 days, closed-lost accounts under six months old, competitors, and active partners.
Most teams write this suppression list the week after a rep cold-emails a customer's VP about a product they already pay for. Doing it first costs twenty minutes. Salestarget.ai suppresses against what sits in the built-in CRM, so the exclusion updates itself as deals move rather than living in a CSV someone refreshes quarterly.
Find Who Uses the Product, Who Runs the Team, and Who Approves the Budget
Three contacts per account, minimum. Gartner's B2B buying research puts a complex purchase at six to ten decision makers, and Forrester's State of Business Buying 2026, published in January 2026, counted 13 internal stakeholders plus nine outside influencers on a typical decision. One contact per account is a coin flip you lose most of the time.
Name the three roles up front: the practitioner who lives with the problem daily, the manager who carries the number it affects, and the person who signs. Sequence the first two together. The signer gets a different message, later, typically after a meeting has already happened.
Check Business Emails and Direct Phone Numbers Before Reaching Out
Verify at the point you add a contact, not after the bounce report. Since February 2024, Gmail and Yahoo have required senders of 5,000 or more daily messages to authenticate with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC and keep spam complaints under 0.3%, with Gmail naming 0.1% as the healthy target; Microsoft published matching high-volume sender rules for Outlook.com in April 2025. Hard bounces sit outside those published thresholds and still read as an un-permissioned list to every filter that counts them.
Email Validator runs MX and SMTP checks, flags disposable domains, and scores risk before a message leaves the sequence. In Salestarget.ai, enrichment and verification happen in the same click as the search, so the address is checked the moment you find it rather than whenever the record was first scraped. If your current list has been sitting since last quarter, run it through a bulk clean before you send anything else to it.
Build a Repeatable Sales Process From First Message to Close
Repeatable means a new rep can run it in week one without asking what happens next. Three parts: a fixed cadence, an owner on every reply, and stage exits written as buyer actions.
Plan Your Email, LinkedIn, and Call Follow-Ups
Write the cadence once and run it against every account on the list.
| Day | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Email 1, the problem and one proof point |
| 2 | View profile, send connection request |
| 4 | Email 2, a different angle on the same problem |
| 7 | LinkedIn message if the request was accepted |
| 9 | Call the direct dial, leave a voicemail |
| 12 | Email 3, short, one question |
| 18 | Break-up email, permission to close the file |
Seven touches across three channels over eighteen days. Reps who stop at touch three leave most of the meetings on the table, and operations buyers in particular rarely surface before the fourth contact.
Give Every Interested Reply an Owner and a Follow-Up Date
A reply with no owner is a dead lead with a nice sentiment score. The rule worth enforcing: anything tagged Interested gets a named owner and a dated next step inside one business hour.
Salestarget.ai's Unibox pulls replies from every inbox into one view, sorts them by intent (Interested, Follow-Up, Not a Fit), and assigns the owner there. The deal syncs into the built-in CRM, which creates the follow-up task automatically when a lead replies or a meeting ends. No rep has to remember to write it down.
Define What the Buyer Needs to Do Before a Deal Moves Forward
Stage exits are buyer actions, never seller feelings. Discovery closes when the buyer has named the problem in their own words, named who signs, and agreed to a dated next meeting. Three facts, all of them observable.
Pipelines staged on rep optimism forecast badly and hide the same two or three stuck deals every month. Pipelines staged on buyer actions tell you in week two that a deal is not moving, which is early enough to do something about it.
Run a Weekly Pipeline Review
Thirty minutes, same time every week, four numbers against four targets. The meeting exists to pick one thing to change, not to narrate the pipeline.
Compare Meetings Held, Qualified Deals, and Wins With Your Targets
For the two-rep plan above, the weekly line reads: 58 accounts contacted, 2.3 meetings held, 0.9 qualified deals, 0.23 wins. Fractions look odd on a whiteboard and they are the honest version of the number.
Read them on a rolling four-week average rather than week by week. A single week of outbound is noise, and teams that react to it rewrite their sequence every Monday and never find out whether anything worked.
Pick One Step to Fix Before Reaching More Accounts
One change per week, aimed at the ratio furthest from target. If meetings are short, the gap is in the list or the first email. If qualified deals are short against healthy meeting numbers, the gap is in who you are booking, which tends to mean the practitioner is saying yes and the budget holder has never heard of you.
Resist adding volume on top of a broken step. Doubling accounts contacted while reply-to-meeting sits at 15% doubles the wasted work and buries the signal you need.

BoFu ยท Choose your tools and test the plan
Test Your Sales Tools on a Small Account List
Run any tool against 50 accounts from your actual ICP before you commit the quarter to it. Database headline numbers describe the whole world. You need coverage of your slice of it.
Check Whether You Can Find and Verify the Contacts You Need
Pull 50 accounts that match your filters exactly and measure three things: the share with all three roles named, the share with a verified business email, and the share with a direct dial. Under 70% on the first number and the tool does not fit your ICP, whatever its total profile count says.
This is the check almost nobody runs, and it is the one that predicts whether the weekly math above survives contact with reality.
Follow One Reply From Your Inbox to a Deal in Your CRM
Send one short sequence to 20 verified contacts, take the first interested reply, and trace it end to end: reply lands, gets tagged, gets an owner, becomes a deal, generates a task, logs the call. Count the manual steps and the CSV exports along the way.
Every export is a point where the data goes stale and a lead goes missing. Start a free trial and run exactly this 50-account test before you move the whole team.
Why Choose Salestarget.ai
Salestarget.ai runs the whole plan above in one workspace: find the account, verify the contact, sequence across email and LinkedIn, and close in the CRM. Apollo covers data and engagement and leaves you buying deliverability and a CRM. Instantly, Smartlead, and Lemlist cover cold email with no native B2B database, no LinkedIn automation, and no real pipeline.
Find Target Companies and Contacts With Lead Explorer
Lead Explorer searches 840M+ verified professional profiles and 146M+ business entities across 50+ data sources. Stack business and people filters, or describe the ICP in plain English. Enrichment unlocks verified email, phone, and mobile in the same click, with 4,000+ intent and buyer signals on a 30 to 90 day lookback.
Check Email Addresses With Email Validator Before Sending
Email Validator runs MX and SMTP checks, catches disposable domains, and scores risk before a send. It works in real time through an API or in bulk on an existing list, and connects across 60+ CRMs, ESPs, and site builders.
Run Email and LinkedIn Campaigns for the Same Customer Group
Email Outreach builds multi-step sequences from a plain-English audience description, runs unlimited inboxes with AI warm-up and rotation, and checks SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. LinkedIn connection requests, DMs, and follow-ups run in the same coordinated flow with built-in rate limits and auto-pause safeguards.
Track Deals and Follow-Ups in the Built-In CRM
Campaign leads land in the CRM with no import. Emails and calls log to the lead timeline, follow-up tasks create themselves on a reply or after a meeting, and the built-in dialer logs click-to-calls. It connects with Google Calendar, Calendly, Slack, Zapier, HubSpot, Salesforce, and Zoho, and sets up in under a day.
Draft Outreach Messages and Review Campaign Results With AI Copilot
AI Copilot is free inside the platform. Ask it to find leads, write a full personalized sequence, or query deals, meetings, and tasks in plain language. It flags at-risk deals, recommends the next move, and creates or assigns tasks. Strategy stays with you.
B2B Sales Strategy FAQ
How do you set B2B sales goals based on revenue targets? Divide the outbound revenue goal by average deal size to get deals, then divide by win rate, meeting-to-qualified rate, and account-to-meeting rate in turn. The last number is accounts per week per rep.
How much pipeline coverage does a small sales team need? Coverage is your win rate inverted. A 25% win rate needs roughly 4X the target in qualified pipeline. Teams with win rates under 20% should plan 5X and shorten the list rather than widen it.
How many contacts should you add per target account? Three: the practitioner, the manager who owns the affected number, and the budget approver. Gartner puts a complex B2B purchase at six to ten decision makers, so one contact per account leaves most of the buying group unaware you exist.
How long before a new B2B sales strategy shows results? One full sales cycle plus one quarter. Meetings held moves in two to three weeks, qualified deals in four to six, and closed revenue only after the cycle length you measured at the start.
Start With One Customer Group, One Offer, and One Pipeline Goal
Go back to the 4,000 emails and the two deals. That quarter failed in a specific place, and the reason nobody could name it is that the list lived in one tool, the sends in another, the replies in an inbox, and the deals in a spreadsheet. No single view meant no single answer.
One customer group, one problem, one number worked backwards into 58 accounts a week, measured in one place: that is the whole plan, and it runs in a single workspace. Find the accounts in Lead Explorer, verify the contacts as you find them, sequence email and LinkedIn together, and watch the deals move in the CRM where the follow-ups write themselves.
Pick your first 750 accounts and run them properly. Start free with Salestarget.ai and have the plan live by Monday.
